Today was a sticker art day in George Town, Penang. I made some stickers for Hello, Hide and seek treasure hunt game organised by We Are Artists in conjunction with George Town Festival and I had some left over stickers to share some BulanLifestyle art around town.
The stickers are made of cork and will naturally biodegrade over time 🙂

Last Sunday of the month is market stall day for me. It was a beautiful Sunday to be out with my friends bringing made in Penang arts and crafts to Little Penang street market. As you can see, we are truly an international mix and truly asia.

I would write more about it but hopefully the photos says it all.

I’m exhausted. Good night.

I attended the annual Tedx Weld Quay conference yesterday. This is the 2nd one ever held. Last year I couldnt get tickets because they were sold out but I managed to meet the speakers after the talk and was so taken by the positive energy of the team and speakers that I promised that I would attend the next one. So, the moment the tickets were released, I bought in! It was another sold out event. Quite a few of my friends wanted to attend but they didnt manage to get the tickets. For me, I admire the spirit of the organisers, their passion in putting an event like this together and curating a group of diverse yet inspirational speakers. Admittedly, not all the speakers spoke or presented well, but all of them had passion and a special story to tell. Ironically, the speaker who had the worse delivery had the most interesting and inspiring story that grabbed my full attention. Someone asked me, who was your favourite speaker. I had to pause and think about the answer because to be honest, they were all incredible people and their stories have fueled the fire in me to make some changes.

It’s made me think, what have I done in my life that I could tell a group of strangers to inspire them?

“TED is an annual event where the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share their passions. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design – three broad subject areas that are shaping our future. n the spirit of ideas worth spreading.

TEDx is a program of local, self organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event.

In line with TED’s mission of Ideas Worth Spreading, TEDxWeldQuay aspires to be a catalyst; which aims to inspire, change and cultivate the minds of the Penang community and the world beyond. Being a platform, TEDxWeldQuay looks to undertake its mission by showcasing undiscovered treasures and talents from the local and international scene. At the same time, we hope to also showcase Penang, the Pearl of the Orient, to the rest of the world through TEDxWeldQuay. ”

10463930_681639511909361_9143701961839387670_n

Today marks the 6th anniversary of historical George town being recognised as a Unesco world cultural heritage site.

George town is a melting pot of Chinese, Malay, Arab, European, Indonesian, Burmese and Indian settlements. It was an important multi cultural trading port and at one time, one of the most important tin trading ports of the British empire.

Today the festival celebrates its intangible heritage. Its culture that includes its crafts, social practices, rituals and cuisine.

My sketch of the day today is adding some leaves to the WWF Malaysia Earth Hour Tshirt. I just thought that the design needed some ‘green’ elements to it. I also hacked off the sleeves and neckline, slashed the back of the tee. I’m going to wear this tonight for the walk, hope they don’t mind my cheeky revamp ;p

ABOUT EARTH HOUR

Saturday 29th March 2014, between 830 pm – 930 pm, individuals, businesses, governments and communities will turn off their lights for one hour to show their support for environmental issues such as climate change. Climate change is one of the biggest environmental threats facing our planet, and it is something we can all relate to at the moment with the global weather patterns going all haywire.

A global environmental initiative in partnership with WWF, Earth Hour began in 2007 in a single city, but by 2012, Earth Hour reached more than 7,000 cities and towns across 152 countries and territories, becoming “the world’s largest campaign for the planet”

Earth Hour’s mission is three-fold. To bring people together through a symbolic hour-long event. To galvanise people into taking action beyond the hour. And to create an interconnected global community sharing the mutual goal of creating a sustainable future for the planet.

If you would like to support one of their projects, visit Earth hour blue
The historical city of George town, Penang will be participating. WWF Malaysia has organised a night walk around the heritage zone of George Town to raise awareness.

This is a sketch of the doorway of an old shop lot. There are many different types of doors and they are all so different. I think I’m going to carry on this door series.

I live on the island of Penang. The old town know as George Town is a UNESCO HERITAGE SITE. There are loads of interesting architectural features to draw.
