Happy Chap Goh Mei. Last day of Chinese new year.

Chinese New year with lion troupe

Happy Chap Goh Mei. Today is the 15th and final day of Chinese new year celebrations. It falls on the snow moon and this auspicious day is also our Chinese Valentine’s day.

Today was such a joyful day chasing lions and dragons with Chelsia Ng πŸ€—

I’m so sad that the lunar new year celebrations have come to an end, but I do hope the year of the pig will be a whole year of celebrating happiness, success and love for us all.

And yes, we believe in magic and unicorns πŸŠπŸŒ•πŸ’›πŸŽ‘πŸ’šπŸ™

Chinese New year celebrating Jade Emperor’s birthday also known in Hokkien as Pai ti Kong.

This is the most important day for the Hokkiens during the lunar new year celebrations and it is one of my favourite festivals.

Traditionally a feast is laid out on the altar table for the Jade emperor to thank him for his protection and blessings. Offerings like gold paper are burnt to send to heaven and fireworks and firecrackers are set off at midnight.

It’s about 3 weeks too early for lanterns but I know if I don’t sketch it I’m going to forget this day.

Happy Chap Goh Meh. Today is the last day of Chinese New Year and traditionally we throw oranges into the sea to find a soul mate. It is the Chinese version of Valentine’s Day. I’m throwing this whole basket in just to be safe πŸ˜‚
