Good morning! Digital drawing of the day is of a beautiful Lantern bug (Pyrops candelaria) that lives in the forest in South East Asia. I spotted this fella in Ulu mudah forest in Kedah, Malaysia.
Digital drawing is of Green Tiger beetle. Cicindela campestris from the Natural history museum in Oxford.
Today’s sketch of the day in my Daler Rowney art journal was an easy choice. It’s of a Yellow Longhorn Beetle that walked across my desk.
Sometimes I have to look for my subjects and sometimes my subjects come to me! If it lands on my desk, it’s a sure sign that i will capture it in my sketchbook and blog about it to the world! (no insects were harmed in the drawing of this)
Happy weekend xoxo
Sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is of a jungle milipede with the quote ‘Create your own path’
Create a new path this week!
I’m out of the Jungle. I had the most amazing 24 hours.
Before I start compiling my jungle photos, here is one I had to share. It is the most incredible looking moth I have ever seen!! I thought it was the cutest wood carved key chain shaped like a deer head sitting on the table….. then I thought, hang on, there’s no keys attached to it….I looked closer and realised it’s a moth. I looked around the room to see if I could find another similar one, there were a few flying around the lights, than I found another one resting on the floor with it’s wings spread open slightly. It looked more like a mask. From far, in the dark, it looked like darth vadar but with the camera flash it’s not so similar.
I have no idea what this moth is called. It should be named the transformer! 🙂 Is this a new species of moth??
More photos to follow 🙂
Thank you to Sagedoyle for identifying this as Prominent moth. Tarsolepis taiwana Notodontidae. Mystery solved!!
I sketched this little fella over the summer in London and have finally got round to putting in the colour. Betsy the beetle was part of a big family who took a liking to the mint patch in the back garden my mum planted. I hope they come back to visit again 🙂
