Another new week! Today’s sketch is a botanical print. I put together a series of plants into a repeat pattern. I think it would really good as a kitchen towel. What do you think?

These violet trumpet flowers were originally sketched last summer in Devon. I’ve finally coloured them and made them into a floral pattern for today’s sketch.

Have a great weekend 🙂

Sketch of the day no 337: Cannonball tree in Botanical Gardens #Penang

8. Cannonball tree

The cannon ball tree  Couroupita guianensis is really interesting.  It has a round fruit, a bit like old rusty cannon balls and beautiful red flowers like a lotus. The monkeys love to eat the fruits. The tree and the fruit is believed to have medicinal properties for curing many diseases. It has antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic and analgesic properties. Quite amazing!

Flower friends

True friends are those who are able to grow separately without growing apart” I have very few close friends but I cherish our friendship and am truly grateful to have them in my life. I am also grateful for all my new friends I have met since joining wordpress. I talk about you all constantly to my other friends. I have a suspicion they think I have imaginary friends ;p

Nature is one of my favourite subjects to draw. Unfortunately in my country, there are people who do not respect nature and feel the need to burn our forests. We are currently experiencing the worst haze in many years due to the burning. I can barely see outside my window. My eyes hurt and I can’t go out. The air just smells of smoke. It’s like being in a smokey room for days on end. It doesn’t help that it hasnt rained in a long time. Being in the tropics, it should rain everyday. The weather pattern has changed around the world. It’s flooding in Europe, freezing in the states and we are experiencing a drought with water rationing.

The world has really gone mad!

Sketch of the day no 271: Lily the divine and mystical Lotus flower to brighten your day xoxo #ART

Purple Lotus flower

Purple Lotus flower

I really love lotus flowers. They are so beautiful and I like what they symbolize. The Lotus flower symbolizes spiritual awakening, purity and resurrection.

As Chinese New Year brings in the new year of the wood horse, my lotus flower sketch marks the new beginning of my journey as well. I want to make this the year of my new rebirth. A new start.

Sayonora for now. I’m off to Japan for a week. I will try to post sketches everyday but forgive me if I dont xx
