Today’s sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is of my DJ friend in Istanbul. I promised I would do a sketch of him and here it is. As I said before, I’m not great at people but I am trying to break out of my comfort zone. I guess I’m a bit apprehensive about drawing people because they may not like my drawing whereas inanimate objects, plants and animals will never object ;p
Today’s sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is of fresh pressed orange and Pomegranate juice which is found at every street in Istanbul. I really miss my daily dose of Portakal suyu for 1TL.
I’m down with a cold back in the UK and I really feel like having an orange juice right now. It’s a typical rainy day as well. I so don’t feel like leaving the house today 😦
Today’s sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is a Purple allium wildflower from the meadows of Turkey.
“You belong among the wildflowers
you belong in a boat out at sea
Sail away, kill off the hours
You belong somewhere you feel FREE” ~ Tom Petty
Today’s sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is of antique turkish ceramic wood stove heater from Istanbul.
Sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is of Dondurma, a Turkish ‘elastic’ ice cream. It is made with milk, sugar salep and mastic. Salep is a natural thickening agent made from the root of purple orchid, and mastic a resin that gives it the chewy texture.
Today is my last day in Istanbul. It’s been an amazing experience and I am sad to leave.
Ice cream makes everything better
ice cream solves everything xoxo
For the best Dondurma in Istanbul:
Sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is a bottle of Yeni Raki, anise flavoured alcoholic drink, made in Turkey by distilling grapes obtained during wine fermentation.
How to drink Yeni Raki?
It is consumed straight in a small glass or with chilled water. It is a must with meze, a selection of cold or hot appetizers like tapas, and is considered Turkey’s national drink. Yeni Raki is one of the most popular brands. You will see people drinking it at dinner in restaurants in Istanbul and around Turkey. Drink in a group, with friends, never alone 🙂
