Join me on my meandering adventure, and look through my eyes to see what inspires me as I rediscover, recreate and rebuild my identity since the loss of my parents.
I started this art project as a challenge proposed to me by my mentor FloatingLemons in 2013, to do a sketch a day.
I have since completed 1000 sketches and today, I still sketch often but no longer on a daily basis.

ABOUT ME
Born on the historical spice trade island of Penang, with wings of a free spirit, my wanderlust cravings and curiosity for new experiences lured me to different parts of the world. I have studied and worked in the UK, France, Tanzania and Singapore.
I have many stories to tell and my art journal, also my trusted travelling companion, is the platform I have chosen to use to share my stories. You can follow my sketches here and on my social media feeds.
My sketches capture what I feel and see, be it from my travels or sitting still. The process is in itself a journey, from sight, to mind, to heart, to paper.
Being rather nomadic, this blog has connected me to the world. It has inspired many people to start their own creative journeys and in turn, it has fueled my own journey.
I have learnt a lot about myself and by retrospectively looking back at my huge collection of sketches and illustrations, I have discovered what is important to me, how I view the world but most importantly, I have discovered who I am.

WHAT DOES BULAN MEAN?
I wanted a name that embodies all things beautiful, good and spiritual. I toyed with a few names but decided on the word “moon”. Furthermore, this has been my dream project, so for me, the moon symbolizes this. Bulan means moon in Malay and Indonesian.
My logo started off as just a ring representing the moon but soon evolved to include a dream catcher within it and eventually sprouting wings. The entire evolution reflects how this project has grown.

After all this time, I finally found the “What does Bulan mean?” Section of your beautiful blog. How lovely! Makes a whole lot of sense. The Incas believed that the moon goddess was (is?) more powerful than the sun god because she wasn’t afraid to come out at night! I love your sketches and look forward to them. Thank you. Paul

When I saw the blog name, I gave it a second look. We also call the moon “bulan” in this part of the Philippines where the Malays have landed centuries ago. 🙂

i never went to art school until i was much older. I think it was only until I was in secondary school did I have school art classes. I think if they are below 10, just let them draw as they please. I agree with you about your concerns with art classes. It depends if the school allows them to just draw as they do freely with some guidance I feel is ok. Kids draw more freely than adults. That is worth keeping forever. I think it sounds like you know what is best for them! 🙂

I am honestly horrible at painting, sketching and drawing. 2 of my kids sketches daily, mostly anime stuffs, and I’m wondering whether I should send them to a painting/art class to further develop their skills. I’m concerned that the class may end up curtailing their spirit – you know, with all the rules and so forth. What do you think?

I am so happy to have found you! Thank you for liking my about page! You were my 200th “LIKER” so that must mean something a little more special don’t ya think? LOL. I love your challenge. I love your artisitc side. I think that a number of events got me stuck in life… I opened up a store that sucked a lot of my time up. (I’d done artshows for a decade or so before that) It had always been a dream of mine but it was really like having a baby! You had to find someone to watch it when you weren’t there… so art shows and being creative enough or just have time to produce enough stuff was in the past…
And then… it all got wiped away in an earthquake in 2003! So be careful what you wish for! Funny, God has given me everything I ever wanted… A store and then not a store… I never thought of it exactly that way till I was just writing this! Seee you have unstuck me! And that is what I came to say! I need to start writing again! Thanks for the challenge. I look forward in following you!

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I know if I don’t carry something, that will be the one time I actually need it. I think it is very impressive. Oh, I am looking forward to seeing the color sketches! Thank you. I wish I drew/illustrated more often. Mostly I find myself writing, and I design everyday for work, but I would like to set aside more time for sketching. Perhaps after the new year (and all the holiday madness) I will try a sketch once a week, and go from there!

What a cool concept. I often think my life should be called “the wandering years”. But it’s a good thing to wander before settling on something. It makes you curious. Sounds like you did that a bit too and are benefitting from it!

Thanx for dropping by! hahha, it’s funny but yy house and car are full of bags, some with faces on them, generally cute animals. They feed on vegetables, and air when I don’t feed them ;p

Thank you! I try to use as little lines as possible for my drawings but sometimes I get carried away. I didnt know most artists are on the other blogs. I learn something new everyday! Good luck with the posts everyday. It totally helps when you see other people doing it and motivating each other!

It’s great to see another daily sketcher on WordPress! Your ink drawings look fabulous! I love your line work and which lines you choose to sketch and which lines you leave out.
It’s funny, I thought most artists were on DeviantArt or tumblr. Thank you for taking the time to look at my stuff and following me. Seeing your posts on a daily basis will help motivate me to keep it up.
