I learnt a similar wisdom in the Army. Sometimes in the most extremes situations, it is better to walk than run. Explosive training: once you’ve lit the wick, you WALK slowly away. Don’t run. If you run, you may fall, and get blown up. π
I’ve applied this philosophy many times. When the going gets tough, the calmer and slower you should be.
