Sunday Surf. Inspired by the iconic ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ by Japanese artist Hokusai. My works are hugely influenced by Japanese block prints which I absolutely adore. 💙

Heroes. Interesting. But understandable. I know close to noting to their lives. I seem to remember that Hiroshige lived quite a bit before the Americans forced entry. But Utagawa? I will investigate. 🙂

A great interpretation again Kawanku. (Love Japanese art myself) When Japan was forcibly opened to the West by Commodore Perry in the 1850’s, the Western world discovered Japanese block prints. It changed the perspective of painters such as Monet, Gaughun, probably Van Gogh, just to name a few. Monet’s house at Giverny is full of Japanese blocks by Hokusai, Utamaro, Hiroshige. 🙂
