Today’s sketch of the day in my moleskine art journal is of a Turkish ornamental sultan rooster from the same farm as George the goose in Beysehir, Konya in Turkey.
Prized for its decorative plumage and puffy crests and long tails. They were kept by the Ottoman Sultans in the imperial gardens hence it’s name. It is the weirdest and most unusual looking chicken I have ever met.
I need to add the words ‘I AM NOT A FEATHER DUSTER’ so that there is no mistake.

The roosters are certainly bullies to each other and very often to the hens.

Thought you would be 👍

Wow! Sounds interesting and blue eggs. I’m learning so many new things about chicken. My friend just told me that chickens are the biggest bullies! Is that true?

I’ve always been extremely faithful to the little 8 year old boy I was! 😎

I’ve got some chickens now that have sideburns, tufts of short feathers on their cheeks. They are supposed to be a cross with a South American chicken called Auricana and a European variety brought to North America about a century ago. They lay pretty blue eggs.

It’s a mystery. Possibly part sultan 🐓🐓🐔🐥🐣
June 13, 2015 at 00:21
Maybe he’s part sultan? Our chickens as best I can remember did not have any feathers on the lower parts of their legs.
June 12, 2015 at 22:47
If you have it in you it’s still in there!
June 11, 2015 at 16:25
And the cat didn’t seem to mind. Great polish on the tile floor. 😎
June 11, 2015 at 16:24
Hey I was 8. 😊
June 10, 2015 at 22:31

June 10, 2015 at 18:40

When I was 8 or 9, during the holidays in our 2-century old Normandie house, we had a cat. Who made friends with another cat in the village, a black and white long-haired cat whose name we did not know. There was also a then popular brand of mops called O-cedar. One day, as my sister and I had just sweeped the tile floor, the two cats came inside with wet feet. Leaving wet cat prints on the floor. Noooo! So I grabbed the long-haired cat by the neck to sweep the cat prints. Didn’t scratch me. He seemed to find it funny. From then on we called O-cedar. Or “duster”. 🙂

June 8, 2015 at 22:39
It is not? Ce n’est pas un plumeau?
(hahaha!)
June 8, 2015 at 10:31
Thank you Ralf. Hope you have been well x
June 7, 2015 at 23:53
Very well done M’lady. Love this work of yours 😀 ❤
June 7, 2015 at 21:05
The mullet!! Haha brilliant. You would be an icon
June 7, 2015 at 20:47
I’m a bit confused now about this fella. He doesn’t have hairy legs like a sultan but he does have 5 toes. You must have thought they were so cute as a child. I love this chicken. Never seen one quite like him before!

Oh, if only I could recreate that haircut I could revisit the late 70’s and the 80’s where I missed out so badly with the need for a less stylish affair- the short back and sides.Maybe I could become a new fashion icon now in my 60’s.

My dad had a few chickens (many years ago) like the one in your sketch but their top knot was black mixed with white feathers.
June 6, 2015 at 18:07
Haha yes they are the same to me 🙂
June 6, 2015 at 18:03
How funny about the feather duster. A pretty bird kind of looks like the Polish chicken. http://www.mypetchicken.com/chicken-breeds/Polish-B91.aspx. Strange looking but pretty at the same time. 🙂

He is a royal rooster!
June 6, 2015 at 17:47
More magnificent than Roy the rooster ;p (close your ears Roy)
June 6, 2015 at 17:46
Haha. Imagine if you just let him lose at home and he does the housework ;p
June 6, 2015 at 17:44
Haha that’s what my friend said to me as well!!
June 6, 2015 at 17:43
Too cool not to draw!
June 6, 2015 at 17:43
And it’s all natural ;p
June 6, 2015 at 15:23
A perfect rooster…
June 6, 2015 at 15:00
Wonderful.
June 6, 2015 at 14:35
Oh, but he could do so much good. Just let me spray a bit of End Dust on him and send him under my bed.
Great sketch. Cheers —
