I met the artist Christine Das this afternoon at her exhibition. I introduced myself and we naturally fell into a long conversation about her work. She is beautiful, talented yet humble, despite her success. We talked about her moving back to Penang in the near future. I hope so. Penang would benefit having her home 🙂
CHRISTINE DAS, a Penang born artist, after spreading her wings out of her hometown, returns home to share her artistic journey in her solo art exhibition, ‘HOMECOMING’.
Out of Malaysia, her work has made early inroads to Singapore, Hong Kong and the United States. Today, Christine is represented by Maya Gallery, Singapore. Her artwork was selected for an installation project by Wei Ling Art Gallery at the 2013 Art Basel Exhibition (known as the Olympics of Art) in Hong Kong. Since her debut, she has participated in numerous local and international group art shows. Two of her figurative works are featured in the International Contemporary Artists 2013 Publication. For her work as an artist, Christine received the Woman of Style and Substance award from Marie Claire magazine (Malaysia) in 2013.
HOMECOMING will display a body of artworks showing Christine’s unique expression of figures, treescape and nature’s inhabitants. “I feel compelled to express her beauty to the world through my art today simply because nature is facing a major conflict with us humans and she is weakening at an alarming rate. I hope to stir the hearts of all mankind towards a deeper love, respect and appreciation for nature. Every life form is priceless and serves a purpose. Nature must be protected for our sake. It is from this strong conviction within me that I share her beauty through my own meticulous stylized renditions of nature fostered through patient stroke by stroke immersion which evokes a sense of movement and liveliness in every art piece. There are times Mother Nature is depicted as my alter ego, as I see myself, Gaia”.
Admission is free.
